Frequently Asked Questions
Golden Blount is a family-owned manufacturer of gas logs, gas fireplaces, and fireplace accessories headquartered in Addison, Texas. The company first entered the fireplace industry in 1970 as a manufacturers’ representative in the southwest, began domestic manufacturing operations in 1991, and introduced its gas log line to the trade in 1994. Golden Blount has since become one of the most respected names in the gas log industry, earning two Vesta Awards for outstanding gas logs as judged by the fireplace industry itself — widely considered the industry’s equivalent of an Oscar. Carefree Home Furnishings is an authorized Golden Blount dealer.
Golden Blount gas logs carry one of the best warranties in the industry. The ceramic logs themselves are warranted against defective materials and workmanship for as long as you own them — a true lifetime warranty on the logs. Burner pan assemblies are guaranteed for five years from the date of purchase. Safety pilot assemblies are covered for one year. The warranty does not cover parts subjected to misuse, abuse, improper handling, or improper installation. Defective logs or parts should be returned to your authorized dealer or to the factory prepaid with a copy of your sales receipt, and Golden Blount will repair or replace defective components at its option and return them prepaid.
Vented gas logs require an open damper and an existing chimney or flue to exhaust combustion gases out of the home. They produce the most realistic flame appearance — tall, yellow-orange, dancing flames that closely mimic a real wood fire — and are available in larger BTU outputs for dramatic visual effect. Vent-free gas logs operate with the damper closed, meaning all heat and combustion byproducts remain in the room. They are significantly more heat-efficient, but produce a shorter, bluer flame. Vent-free models must meet strict safety standards and include an Oxygen Depletion Sensor that automatically shuts the unit off if oxygen levels drop. Many states have restrictions on vent-free installations — check local codes before purchasing.
Golden Blount offers several named log collections, each with a distinct visual character. The Big Tex is one of their most recognised sets, featuring full-bark logs and a two-stage burner raised at the back for dramatic flame height — it won a 2006 Hearth and Home Vesta Award. The Texas Bonfire comes with six logs, black rocks, and a large ember bed for a realistic fire appearance. The Split Bonfire Charred features hand-charred logs on a 5/8-inch thick grate for an authentic, well-used campfire look. The Charred Bonfire uses their Omega Burner system for precise flame control. All collections are available in multiple sizes from 18 inches to 72 inches to fit a range of fireplace openings.
Yes. Golden Blount log sets are designed to accept a range of remote control options for convenient operation. Entry-level options provide simple on/off functionality — ignite and extinguish the fire from across the room. Variable flame remotes allow you to adjust the flame height to anywhere between low and full output without getting up. Thermostatic remotes monitor room temperature and cycle the fire on and off automatically to maintain your target temperature. The specific remote compatibility depends on the valve type included with your log set — Skytech and Dexen Millivolt valve options are available on most collections and both support the full range of remote upgrades.
The Controlled Ember Bed is a patented Golden Blount innovation, with the patent issued in November 1999. It is an optional add-on burner that sits within the ember bed area of the fireplace and ignites a secondary flame directly inside the glowing embers, creating the visual impression that the entire ember bed is alive with fire. The effect dramatically increases the realism of the gas fire because it eliminates the visual gap between the logs (where flame is visible) and the ember bed (which, on standard sets, simply glows). For buyers who prioritise maximum visual realism, the Controlled Ember Bed upgrade is consistently cited as the most impactful single addition to any Golden Blount installation.
Yes. In addition to gas log sets designed to be installed into existing masonry or zero-clearance fireplaces, Golden Blount manufactures complete open-front gas fireplace units. Golden Blount’s gas fireplaces feature an 18-inch tall viewing area, spark-to-pilot ignition as standard, and an open contemporary design with no fixed screens or 500-degree glass fronts — giving a more accessible, traditional fireplace look and feel. They are designed for big, visible flames paired with Golden Blount’s award-winning log sets. Golden Blount also offers Alpine Linear Burners in widths ranging from two to six feet for modern linear fireplace installations.
Yes — most Golden Blount gas log sets are available in both natural gas and liquid propane configurations, selected at the time of purchase. It is critical to match the fuel type of your log set to your home’s gas supply — the appliance is pre-set for one fuel type and field conversion between natural gas and propane is not permitted on most Golden Blount models. The gas supply type is indicated on the rating plate of the unit. If you are unsure what type of gas your home uses, contact your gas utility provider before ordering. Propane with match-lit configuration is not available on certain collections — verify before purchasing if this is your preferred ignition method.
Golden Blount recommends that installation and repair be done by a qualified professional installer. This is not purely a recommendation — improper installation is explicitly excluded from the warranty, meaning DIY installation errors that cause damage or failure will not be covered. A licensed gas technician will verify your fireplace’s gas line pressure, confirm the correct BTU rating for your fireplace opening size, make the gas connection safely, test for leaks, and demonstrate safe operation. For buyers in areas where DIY gas appliance work is legal, the installation itself is physically straightforward — centre the burner, connect the flex connector, place the logs and embers — but professional installation protects your warranty and ensures your family’s safety.
The right answer depends on what you already have. If your home has an existing masonry or zero-clearance fireplace with a working gas line, Golden Blount gas logs are the premium choice. They produce a genuine flame — authentic visual depth, radiant heat, and a real fire atmosphere that electric fireplaces cannot fully replicate at any price point. The lifetime warranty on logs and the Vesta Award-winning realism of Golden Blount’s bark texture and ember detailing make them a long-term investment rather than a replacement appliance. Electric fireplace inserts are the better choice when there is no gas line, no existing fireplace opening, or when installation by a gas professional is not practical. For homes with a gas supply and a fireplace opening, Golden Blount gas logs consistently outperform electric alternatives on visual impact, heat quality, and longevity.
