Hallway Rug Runners Designed for Daily Foot Traffic

Measure your hallway’s length and aim for a runner that leaves 6–10 inches of visible flooring at each end. Since these runners are offered across a wide price/size range per design, you can typically size the same pattern up or down to fit a short entry hall or a long corridor.

Both are traditional, Persian-inspired designs from Oriental Weavers. Aberdeen is the deeper collection here, offered in more than a dozen colorways spanning florals, medallions, and oriental motifs. Ariana is a related traditional floral pattern available in a rectangle/round format.

Same design family, different proportions. These Aberdeen and Ariana patterns are woven across a size range — from smaller mats up to large area rug dimensions — so the runner is simply the long, narrow cut of the same collection rather than a separate product line.

That range reflects the full span of sizes woven in that pattern, from small accent-size runners up to large 10′ x 13’+ area rugs. The runner-length sizes you’d actually use in a hallway fall toward the lower-to-middle end of that range.

Traditional oriental-style runners like these are typically woven with a tight pile designed for exactly this kind of durability — they’re a longstanding choice for entryways and hallways because the dense weave resists matting and hides soil better than a flatter, looser weave would.

In practice the terms overlap heavily here — both describe rugs built around classic motifs (medallions, florals, botanical borders) in the style of hand-knotted Persian and Turkish rugs, just machine- or power-loomed for affordability. Within this collection you’ll see both floral-forward and medallion/oriental-forward variations of the same Aberdeen base pattern.

If you’re looking for a runner in a different brand or a more contemporary (non-traditional) style, it may be worth checking the main Area Rugs category and filtering by a narrow length, since some Furniture of America and Park Hill designs are offered in longer proportions too.

A rug pad is recommended under any runner on hardwood, both to prevent slipping in a high-traffic hallway and to protect the floor finish from friction. We carry rug pads separately if you need one sized to match.
